This video had quite a long genesis. The clip I used for it was sitting on my computer for years, waiting to be messed around with. In the end it finally happened, and a new video was born. The original footage was a public information film about crossing the road, starring Richard Massingham, who made a whole load of comical information films back in the 1930s-40s.

When Denki Groove contacted me about making this video, I was in the middle of writing a book about a cyber-horse living in a computer generated meadow, which might explain where the idea came from. Horses make great cartoon characters. Are they better than cows, though? Not sure.

If you’ve ever listened to Adam Buxton’s podcast you will no doubt be familiar with this tune. He asked me to make a video for it, and sent me a gloriously high resolution publicity photo of his lovely hairy face. Looking at that photo felt like I was floating in orbit around the planet Buxton, which is where the idea came from for the video. The iconography is all by graphic design wizard Sarah Brown, who also worked with me on Adam Buxton’s counting song.

I felt like doing some full on body horror, although I since discovered there are people out there with a weird fetish for being eaten who may be enjoying this video more than they are meant to. There’s probably a weird fetish out there for everything I animate, so not much point worrying about it, I guess.
